25 Oct 2011 - October News

Hello from Pre-School!

We have had a busy month in pre-school. We have been making lots of things for our wall display.  Miss Murray and the children have made a fantastic autumn tree.  Miss Nicola has done lots of messy activities and Miss Porteous has been working on letters and sounds.
Last month the dentist from Whitegate Drive practice came to examine our children's teeth.  They commented how well behaved and well mannered Alphabet House children are.
We are also hoping for Ann from Chatsworth library to pay us a visit and bring Toddler Story and Rhyme Time to us.
We will continue to focus on autumn and Halloween and bonfire night this month. It would be great if you tell us all about any events or parties you are attending during this exciting time of the year using the home link books.
I am pleased to say all our new children have settled well and all teachers are pleased with their progress.
On Monday 31st October we will be having a little Halloween party for the children who attend on that day so party games and dressing up and lots of fun on that day.

From all of us til next month

A big hello to all our parents and carers,

As you will see around the toddler unit the children have been very busy.
We have been learning some colours red, green, yellow and blue. Some children brought some coloured things in from home to share with us and display on our colour table. A big thank you to those children.
The children have enjoyed sticking with different coloured media and learning the colours. They enjoyed getting messy having their hands painted to make a rainbow which is displayed on the wall with photo's for you all to see.
Some children came dressed inthe colour of the week. We went on a walk to see what colours we could see.
The children had a great time visiting Clair's chickens. Some of the childen saw Pauline lay an egg!! When we came back to nursery we made chickens using socks and different media. They thought it was fun putting them on their hand. Some children thought it was strange and didn't want to.
The baby room role play area was a huge success. Some children brought their dolls from home. We have been tasting different types of baby food although they weren't keen on the jars but loved the rusks. We are going to do a time line of photo's of the children so if you haven't already could you bring  photo's in of your child when they were a baby and a recent one please. Staff are bringing photo's in too so you can have a laugh!!
In a couple of weeks we are going to bath a baby from the baby unit! I am sure the children will love that as they have been very caring towards their own dolls.
We had a trip to Barb's kitchen to make cakes. Clair brought in Pauline's eggs for us to use. We put jam in, iced it and decorated it with sweets, it was yummy!. Photo's are displayed.
Some children went to Wiggle and Jiggle. They enjoyed dancing with the parachute and stretchy string, dancing with scarves, marching, skipping and lots more.
We talked about different sized funnels and boxes. The children poured water through a funnel using a jug and then placed it in the freezer. The next day we took it out. Some children touched it and said it was "cold and hard". They enjoyed watching it melt over the course of the day. One child said "It's melting"
We welcome Harry, Jacob, Jaq and Ben from the baby unit we are sure they will have lots of fun and make new friends. We also welcome Casey, Robyn, Jordan and McKenzie. We hope they settle well and have lots of fun too. We have said farewell to Luci-Mai this month and we are also saying farewell to Phoebe who will be sorely missed.

Until next time from all in toddler unit.

A Big hello to all parents and carers,

September has been a busy month. We have carried on with our topic 'food'.  We baked fairy cakes which the children enjoyed tucking into for snack.  We took a walk to the shop to show the children all the different foods.  We even bought a few cheeky treats for the children to try back at the nursery.

The children enjoyed bringing in their favourite teddies to join them on their teddy bear's picnic, where they had lots of fun feeding their teddy's their food.
The children have been spending a lot of time in the garden doing all different activities that were set out. They enjoyed painting stamp pictures, the children love to be outdoors.
Next month we will be exploring Autumn and getting ready for Halloween...!
We would like to welcome Jimmi Morley, Ava Dixon and Libby Carr and we wish Ben Wells, Jacob Sumner, Jaq Miller and Harry Stephenson a fun time as they move upto tooddlers.
